Surrounded by the tranquillity of the majestic mountain scenery, there are walks to suit the elderly right up to hikes for the young and vigorous on the farm trails and among the kloofs.
The photo below depicts a typical scene from a hiking trail in the area.
The area also provides 4x4 routes, sight-seeing, game viewing and bird watching. Below is a photo of a well known rock formation known as "Queen Victoria" - it is easy to spot the resemblance.
Die Skoolhuis makes an ideal base from which to explore the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area and the scenic Gamtoos River Valley.
The Baviaanskloof, Kouga and Great Winterhoek Mountains offer fantastic scenery with numerous kloofs, waterfalls and forests.
All the above activities, as well as canoeing and swimming, can be enjoyed in these areas too, although it is as well to book in advance.
Ample accommodation is available throughout the area.
Due to it's rugged nature, the Baviaanskloof is best travelled with at least a 4x2 bakkie.
The "Skoolhuis", however, is easily accessible by car.
There are various short scenic excursions in the immediate vicinity of the Skoolhuis for visitors to explore. Please enquire.
