Kumnandi Lodge (Kumnandi means "that's pleasant") lies in the most beautiful part of the Baviaans district just outside Willowmore at the foot of Aasvoëlberg (Vulture Mountain), the most dominating feature of the landscape for miles around.
The modern lodge is conveniently situated only a few hundred metres from the N9 Main Route between Graaff Reinet and George, but totally out of sight and sound of it, on a fine dirt road suitable for sedan cars - an ideal overnight stop to the Baviaanskloof but also a suitable self catering accommodation venue for weekend getaways or longer farm stays or typical Karoo Farm holidays.
The east facing guest house with its spacious stoep, looks out on a magnificent vista of distant mountains over a plain, framed by mountains on either side. The sunrises and sunsets from here are spectacular.
Inside, the lodge has been tastefully decorated and furnished so as to be full of atmosphere with comfortable and spacious lounge and dining areas. In order to strengthen the farm holiday atmosphere candles and paraffin lamps can provide light as in the old days. (Solar powered lighting has been fitted for those who prefer modern technology.) The well-equipped kitchen is gas powered and has an indoor braai. There is also another built-in braai on the stoep.
One double bedroom, one bedroom with three singles and one bedroom with a double and a single as well as a beautifully designed shower room offer comfort and flexibility.
There are various farm tracks suitable for 4x2 and, whether driving, mountain biking or walking, you will drink in the beautiful and varied scenery ranging from mountains and kloofs to seemingly endless views across the Karoo.
There is a wide variety of game on the farm some of which can sometimes be found grazing the lawn outside the guest house. Presently the following species can be found: zebras, impala, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, springbok, eland, kudu, duiker, klipspringer and duiker.
The tariff of R 300 per person per night (self catering) is tremendous value.
