Speekhout Treehouse Self Catering Accommodation

Speekhout is an organic farm lying in its own side valley in the Baviaanskloof, one and a half kilometers from the main road, enjoying exceptional peace and quiet under the protection of "The Crocodile" and other beautiful cliffs and rock formations. Willowmore is just 56 kilometers away.

Speekhout (Kigglaria Africana) is the wild peach tree which was used for wheel spokes, hence the common name.

Tree House

For a completely different experience try staying in Speekhout's tree house built in an enormous Karee tree. The house can sleep up to six people. There is one bedroom which can sleep up to four and a sleeper couch in the rustic living room. Above the double bed there is a retractable roof so that one can star gaze from the comfort of the bed.

The house is equipped for self catering, towels and bedding are provided. The kitchen has a microwave oven, bar fridge, and two plate gas stove

There is a fireplace inside for cosy winter nights as well as outside braai area.

 

There are views all round, especially from the deck. The small kitchen is equipped for self-catering and there is even a fire place in the living room. The tree house has a hot water shower and flush toilet.

Pete has an amazing collection of Bonsai trees which you can have a look at, and some are for sale.

Hiking

Speekhout have great hiking opportunities. You can hike over the mountain to Duiwekloof, to the swimming hole, or on to the crocodile’s back (a rock formation).

Tariffs Valid Until November 2014

  • R220 pppn for two or more sharing
  • R350 for a single
  • Children under 12 years: Half price
  • Babies under 3 years: No charge
  • Tariffs negotiable off season and for 4+ people staying more than one night.

Bookings

  • It is necessary to book, especially for school holidays and weekends.
  • 50% deposit payable upon reservation.
  • No card payment facilities are available and guests who prefer not to pay the balance in cash are welcome to deposit the full amount before their stay.

Conditions Of Stay

  1. We live in a large wilderness area with lots of wild animals including snakes.
    • Be alert at all times.
    • Do not feed or encourage monkeys or baboons to come closer.
    • Remember: “A fed baboon is a dead baboon”.
    • Never leave anything edible behind.
    • Our baboons and monkeys do not yet associate people with food and we wish to keep it that way.
  2. Please do not remove any wood, stones, plants or plant samples. Dry firewood is available at reception.
  3. Fires may be lit at designated sites only.
  4. No graffiti or tree carving.
  5. Please do not litter. (Litter includes cigarette stubs!)
  6. Please note that use of all hiking trails are at own risk.
