What an adventure, what a ride (from Patensie side 16-19 November 2015). No communication, no reception, really bad patches through the Conservation Area & lots of prayers but get to the tame side it is absolutely awesome. Farmers all so accommodating (Chris at Doringkloof) and then Alice in Wonderland (Speekhout Tree House) to Henriette & Boetie's cave man existence what an experience, very special. 'Swaeltjienes' is the newest accommodation and we were lucky to have it all to ourselves with a warm freshly baked bread delivered 4km into the mountain. Did Louise Morse get the tent back that they lost in September? The rough road must have dislodged it without them realising. Hope it was found and returned. Beverley Hardy Durbanville (Cape Town)

What an experience, it is beautiful, it is tranquil, it is breath taking, the people are out of this world. We will certainly go back and take friends with. We travelled from Willomore to Patensie in a Audi Q5. What a magnificant vehicle. The weather was superb, we could not have asked for a better week, 18-24 October 2015. Anybody is welcome to contact me for information on road conditions, photo's etc.

The trip through the Baviaans was truly awesome and beautiful. The Clay Cottages are very unique and were clean, prepared and so peaceful. Good value for money and conveniently situated for breaking the journey over two days. I have only one concern about the road (T1) through the wilderness area and that is if nothing is done soon to maintain it, this amazing, unique, stunning route will not be available or open to future generations! Must be on all nature lover's "bucket list".

This is such a unique Natural Area, and we encountered many 4x4 drivers during this festive season from all over the country, but PLEASE remember that first and foremost this is a Nature Reserve- practise patience + courtesy to all you meet. No hooting, or frightening ANY animals and allow others to take foto's Enjoy!

nature at its very best. scary feeling when walking alone + large troops of cheecky baboons check every move. scary sounds at night when monkeys are attacked. bassfishing out of this world. Parks must maintai access for 4x4's only, otherwise the beauty of this part of land will be destroyed . keep up good practices + save nature at your best

I would like to thank all of those people who stopped and helped me after i had fallen off my Bike on the 25 April, A special mention to Colet (The Doctor) who checked me over and strapped my Knee and Ankle. To Doron for driving my Bike out the Kloof onto the tar road and Naomi for driving me safely out. I managed to ride the bike the remaining 100 +Km to PE where it was discovered that I had cracked my Tibia, broken the Fibula and torn the ligaments in the Knee. Regards Brian Baxter

i am very interested in buying products from the crafters in the areas - i think that it would be a brilliant idea to just add a photo of some of the items next to crafters name to give idea of quality and look of their work. I will definitely order from Vondeling because they have a website where i can see their work. Thanks

We recently visited the Baviaanskloof driving a 4x4 vehicle. On our return trip we decided to follow the T2 route from Steytlerville to Patensie. The route is very badly signposted although the map was very good. However, it is the condition of the pass into Grootrivierpoort and through the Wilderness area to the Telkom tower that most concerned us. This road is almost impassable for even a 4x4 vehicle. When compared with the main T1 route it is no more than a river cutting and really should be closed until remedial work can be carried out. We met family going in the opposite direction who were in complete shock and looked like they were about to be sick because of the journey undertaken. To simply say the road is in bad condition is a complete fabrication, it isn't a road and it really detracted from our whole experience which was otherwise fantastic.

This must be one of the most beautiful farms in the country. If ever you are travelling through the Baviaans, make a point of stopping in at Ysrivier Campsite (Kudu Kaya). you wont regret it. The owners are friendly big hearted people, and Ysrivier is a wonderful springboard for anyone wanting to spend time in the Baviaans.

Once you have been there you just want to go back, ideal for the outdoor , camping type. But you need a vehicle with high clearance , Rooihoek is just stunning to have a swim or do some bass fising.

If you are into packing up your motorbike and exploring South Africa's great outback gravel roads and destinations, this place is a must. I go touring quite ofen, and always start my trips by going through the B/Kloof first. (from Port Elizabeth) Final words: DUMBSTRUCK BY THE INTENSE BEAUTY.
