About Echoes of the Baviaans

Echoes of the Baviaans is situated below the highest peak of the Baviaans mountain range, at the foot of the northern slopes, only 37km from Steytlerville.

The Private Wild Camping Area provides 1.5 million square meters of unspoiled veld per group.  Watch the most amazing sunsets while mist roll over the mountain peaks and fold into the valleys below, and at sunrise see how the kudus seek the early rays of the sun.  Enjoy the silence that is only broken by the echoes of the chattering baboons, howling winds and waterfalls in the valley of the Baviaans.

Feel welcome to bring along your pets, quadbike, moutain bike, motorbike or 4x4 to explore the trails.  You have the freedom to pitch your tent at any of the following natural camping areas:

Sonbesiebos: An open ground area created by nature which is surrounded by high ironwood bushes at the foot of the mountain.

Duikerdam: Situated next to a small gravel dam where wild animals come to drink.

Jakkalslaagte: Expand your view of the mountain by moving into the valley of the jackal.  At night you hear the call of the jackal and watch the stars through a canopy of Mountain Ebony trees.

Access road:  Only bakkies or high ground clearance vehicles (SUV's) will be able to manoeuvre the two track roads in this wild area.

Ablution: Campers need to provide for their own ablution (porta potty or shovel/spade) - this is the wild.  Fresh water is available at the windmill.

The Farm Camping Site is a large grassy field situated between a picturesque koppie and a small river.  Walking and playing is effortless on this large open space.  Hike up the Riverwalk trail to an enormous gravel dam where you can have a picnic, swim, canoe, or just watch the reflection of the highest peak of the Baviaans in the water while you meditate.

Ablution:  This site has a long drop toilet and a warm shower.  No electricity.

Access road: Sedans
