The Cambria valley, boxed in by the magnificent Baviaans and Kouga mountain ranges, forms the gateway to the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve and Wilderness Area. The name Cambria, apparently Welsh for the country of Wales, was bestowed on the area by an earlier visitor who was struck by its resemblance to his homeland. The area with it's pristine natural forests, fynbos and valley bushveld, offers excellent eco-recreational opportunities. The Cambria area in the Baviaanskloof offers excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation activities. Some of the most popular include, Mountain Hiking, Mountain Biking, Bird Watching, Game Viewing, Nature Walks and 4x4 Trails.

The major attraction is the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve and Wilderness Area comprising of approximately 300 000 ha. of unspoiled natural beauty which offers a unique and memorable wilderness experience. Other attractions in the Cambria area is the magnificent specimen of Outoniqua Yellowwood who's age is dated to be in excess of 800 years. An ancient cycad believed to be more than 3 000 years can be found at the top of the towering viewpoint offering a panoramic view over the Cambria valley dominated by the majestic 1561 m. high Mac Mountain in the North-East. A copy of the Baviaanskloof Bird Checklist can be obtained from the tourist information office situated at the Baviaanskloof Lodge or to receive a copy in .pdf file format.
